During the 62nd National Fair of Mediterranean Artichoke and Horticultural Products in San Ferdinando di Puglia (BT) 2022, the first training day of the ICARUS project took place, funded within the framework of the Puglia Rural Development Program 2014-2020 - Measure 16.2.
The event was attended by Professor Maria Luisa Amodio from the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Food, Natural Resources, and Engineering (DAFNE) - University of Foggia, and Professor Giuseppe De Mastro from the Department of Soil, Plant, and Food Sciences - University of Bari "Aldo Moro."
Professor Amodio, as the technical coordinator of the project, spoke about process innovation and marketing to enhance the made-in-Puglia artichoke, while Professor De Mastro delivered a presentation titled "Artichoke: Production, Use, and Reuse".
It was a particularly important opportunity to concretely illustrate the ambitious objectives of the project: improving the competitiveness of the made-in-Puglia artichoke supply chain by strengthening various aspects along the chain. This includes the recovery of local varieties, enhancing cultivation techniques in terms of sustainability, introducing new IV and V range products, utilizing processing waste to produce supplements and natural cosmetics, and, above all, enhancing the transformation of the product to seize the growth opportunities offered by the processed product market.
